As expected, the three semi final races from the Tazza l-Kbira competition were the main attraction Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Race Track. These races were won by Pouloud Keroc’H, The Bad Rock and Oran and formed part of the 5th Spring meeting made up of nine races all for trotters. All the races in yesterday’s card were held on a long distance of 2640m.

From the three Tazza l-Kbira semi finals, twelve horses qualified for the final stage. There was a keen tussle between four trotters in the final straight of the first semi final. These horses were Quiet Way (Charles Degiorgio), Pouloud Keroc’H (Chris Vassallo), Perceval (Frencu Cassar) and Pacha De La Frette (Claudio Refalo). It was Pouloud Keroc’H which secured its second win in Malta and of the season after that the photofinish had to be consulted by the racing stewards.

The Bad Rock (Rodney Gatt) was unchallenged for most of the distance during the second semi final of this championship. In the final metres, this Swedish eleven year old trotter preserved its advantage of two lengths and triumphed from Sultan November (Shawn Portelli). Poppes Fighter (Paul Galea) and Madam Di Poggio (Julian Farrugia) also made it for the final stage. For The Bad Rock this was its first win of the season.
Oran (Julian Farrugia) took its second win of the year after dashing strongly from the outside midway through the final straight of the third and last semi final of this prestigious championship. Favourite Pat De Fontaine (Noel Baldacchino), Cloria Victis (Charles Degiorgio) and Oltedo De Rieux (Frencu Cassar) followed home in that order. The winner clocked an impressive average time of 1.14.4” per kilometer.
