On Monday evening, Maltese popular driver and trainer in Sweden Charles Degiorgio managed to win one of the major events with French three year old Verset Ducal. This horse is also owned by Degiorgio. The handicap race was held at the Mantorp Racetrack and was run on a short distance of 2140m. Verset Ducal started to increase its speed with a lap to go and finished first easily by three lenghts from Hertig Shim driven by Oscar Uhrberg and Italian mare Picania, under the guidance of Tony Wallin. Angelo Azzurro (Martin Redl) ended in fourth place.
Verset Ducal clocked an average time of 1.19.6″ per kilometer and this race was run in difficult weather conditions. In Sweden, Charles Degiorgio is also directly assisted by the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport and the Malta Tourism Authority. The Mantorp meeting was also transmitted live on one of the Swedish TV Channels. The presenter of the programme also gave a lot of promotion to our country during the official presentation to Charles Degiorgio.
Asked to comment about this win with Verset Ducal, Charles Degiorgio said that he was very satisifed wih th performance of Verset Ducal. “As you know, I have bought this horse last year during an auction sale in France. In the past months I have prepared and trained Verset Ducal intensely and I managed not only to qualify him for racing in Sweden but also to win this important event. I hope that I win more races with his horse in the coming months,” concluded Charles Degiorgio.
