Driven by one of its owners, Ronald Cassar, eleven year old trotter, Ohime Mag, won Sunday’s major event, the Prix De Vincennes final for French horses registered in class Premier. This final formed part of the 51st meeting of the season consisting of ten races all for trotters, five of which were finals for French trotters.

Nine horses lined up for the class Premier final. It was Pacha De La Frette (Claudio Refalo) which took the lead after the official start of the race, opening a small lead from Orion du Vaumicel (Frencu Cassar) and Orgueil De Nganda (Noel Baldacchino). With a lap to go, favourite Okilaibo (Julian Farrugia) also started to increase its speed. However, 400m from the end, Pacha De La Frette ran out of steam, started to slow down and was overtaken by both Okilaibo and Ohime Mag (Ronald Cassar).

In the final straight, Okiliabo couldn’t sustain the challenge of Ohime Mag and the latter took its fourth win of the year. Oltedo De Rieux (Charles Camilleri) and Quelino d’Amour (Mario Fenech) followed home in that order. At the end of this final, Ms Emmanuelle Morvillers, Societe’ du Cheval Francais official, presented the trophy to Messrs Ronald Cassar and Michel Lautier driver and co-owners of the winning horse. The winner clocked an average time of 1.14.9” per kilometer.

Oolong (Charles Degiorgio) dashed strongly from the outside around 400m to the finishing line of the class Gold final. This eleven year old trotter notched to its third win of the season after beating easily the challenge of Prince Gaillard (Charles Camilleri) and Onyx Lucernais (Jason Cordina). Orage Du Pont (Julian Farrugia) finished fourth.

In the class Silver final, favourite Quozak Prior (Noel Baldacchino) got outsmarted by Petit Pierricais (Raymond Schembri) midway through the final straight. Petit Pierricais obtained its second win on the trot and in Malta by three lengths, with Pirate d’Urzy (Eugenio Bondin) and Pittacos (Charles Degiorgio) following behind in that order.

Sunday’s meeting still remained a memorable one for Noel Baldacchino as he managed to win both the Bronze and the Copper final respectively with Polytain and Owens Kin. Polytain surged ahead around 300m to the end of the class Bronze final and secured its sixth win of the season and its third in a row easily by two lengths from Notre Joyeux (Julian Farrugia). Under the guidance of Baldacchino, Owens Kin led all the way and finished first by half length from Minou De Perdriat (Charles Camilleri).

During Sunday’s meeting, Noel Baldacchino was awarded as the best driver of last month. In November 2013, Baldacchino managed to win an international race held at Vincennes Race Track in Paris. The Zejtuni driver was not only presented a commemorative plaque but also a number of horse products produced in Italy by Equine Supreme Company Limited.

Another special meeting will be held next Sunday at the Marsa Race Track. This meeting will include a series of six finals forming part of the Equestrian Festival that will be organized during the coming weekend. The first race should start at 1.30pm.
