Eleven year old mare, Que Je T’Aime Rush won Sunday’s major event at the Marsa Racetrack. This was the Krafft Championship final for class Silver trotters on a short distance of 2140m. This final formed part of the 19th meeting of the season made up of eight races all for trotters.

Eleven horses lined up for the class Silver final. Driven by Carl Caruana, Que Je T’Aime Rush looked a serious contender as from the early stages of the race. This trotter was one of the first horses out of the blocks and during the first metres, Que Je T’Aime Rush opened a length lead from Tresor De Quesny (Andrew Farrugia) and Command Coger (Carmelo Farrugia). The French mare never relinquished its position and finished first by half length from Tresor De Quesny. Udice Boko (Charles Camilleri) and Rex Rose (Patrick Spiteri) finished respectively in third and fourth place.

At the end of this final, Mr Shawn Pete Azzopardi, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the winning trophy to Joe Attard and Carl Caruana, the owner and driver respectively of the winning horse. This presentation was held in the presence of Mr Edwin Borg, MRC Chairman. Que Je T’Aime Rush clocked an average time of 1.16” per kilometer.

Sunday’s card included also a class Premier race on a mile distance. Eleven horses participated in this event, four of which were also making their debut in Malta. It was one of these newcomers, Swedish mare Angelic Coger (Salvu Vella) which set the early pace, opening a small lead from Austrian Blizzard Ad (Frencu Cassar) and another Swedish trotter Veikko Hornline (Julian Farrugia).

However, with 400m to go, Angelic Coger ran out of steam and was reeled in by High Stage, which, under the guidance of Marco Refalo, secured its first win in Malta by a length from Blizzard Ad and Italian Madrileno (Mario Fenech). One of the debutantes, French Quintillus (Toni Tanti) finished fourth. It should be noted that the first win in Malta of High Stage, was obtained in an average time of 1.12.7” per kilometer. With this time, this Swedish six year old trotter equaled the record established on the same distance by Prieure on the 4th May 2014.

The other races in Sunday’s programme were open for class Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper trotters. In the only class Gold race on the card, Danish Obelix Molgard (Salvu Vella) led all the way and was unchallenged during the mile distance. This trotter past the post first, easily by more than two lengths and a half lead from Record Du Mexique (Marvin Cauchi) and Rex Du Braud (Charles Farrugia). Prince Gaillard (Charles Camilleri) followed home in that order.

Another meeting consisting of seven trotting races will be held at the Marsa Racetrack next Friday which is a public holiday . The first race should start at 1.45pm.
