Royal In wins major final of the day

The most important events held Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack were three Condition Race finals for class Silver, Bronze and Copper trotters on a short distance of 2140m. These finals formed part of the 42nd meeting of the season made up of eight races all for trotters. They were organized by the Malta Racing Club thanks to the support of the interational company Velj Wahlsten Oj, represented in Malta by Messrs Mario and Peter Farrugia.

Twelve horses lined up for the major final on the card that reserved for class Silver trotters. Memory Chip (Julian Farrugia) was the fastest horse in the early stages of this final. During the first metres, Memory Chip opened a small lead from Pronger (Claudio Refalo) and Versace Boko (Warren Spiteri). With 400m to go, the early leader started to slow down and was overtaken by Scarface Ringeat (Charles Camilleri). However in the final straight, even this French trotter couldn’t sustain the challenge of Royal In, which, under the guidance of one of its owners, Marco Debono, notched to its third consecutive win and the seventh of the season. Ratatoui (Jesmar Gafa’) and
Versace Boko ended respectively in third and fourth place.

Oregon Frontline (Rodney Gatt) sealed its fourth win in a row and in Malta in the class Bronze final. Gatt’s trotter stormed ahead only after few metres from the official start of the race and was unchallenged during the 2140m distance. Oregon Frontline triumphed easily by four lenghts from Pericle (Jonathan Farrugia). Dreamed Victory (Jason Zahra) and Noble Raun (Michael Ellul) followed home in that order.

In the class Copper final, the early leader, Atout De Carriere (Charles Camilleri) ran out of steam only few metres from the finishing post. This French trotter was overtaken by favourite Tap Tiara (Noel Baldacchino) which gained its second win in a row and its fifth in Malta. Quibus (Jason Cordina) and Alana (Marvin Cauchi) finished respectively in third and fourth place.

The drivers and owners of the trotters which triumphed in the three condition race finals were presented with a trophy either by the MRC Chairman Edwin Borg or by Mr Ivan Carabott who is one of the council members. They were also accompanied by Messrs Mario and Peter Farrugia on behalf of the sponsors.

Sunday’s card also included a class Premier race on a gymkana format and on a long distance of 3140m. A keen duel between two trotters developed in the final metres of this race. It was Finnish Ranch Get On (Charles Magro) which cruised to its first win in Malta from Vanmaker Limburgia (Charles Camilleri). Striking Actions (Rodney Gatt) and Quito De Neret (Noel Baldacchino) completed the top four order.

It should be noted that during Sunday’s programme, Noel Baldacchino and Rodney Gatt were presented with a commemorative plaque after finishing respectively the best drivers for the months of March and April 2015. The presentation to both drivers was also carried out by Mr Edwin Borg.

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held next Friday and the first race should start at 7pm.
