Eleven year old, Quiet Du Chene won Sunday’s major race at the Marsa racetrack. This was the Prix De Vincennes final on a long distance of 2640 and open for French trotters registered in class Premier. This final formed part of the 51st meeting of the season made up of ten races all for trotters. Five of these races were finals for French trotters organized by the Malta Racing Club in conjunction with the French association Le Trot.

Twelve horses took part in the class Premier final. It was Pedro Vici (Johan Axisa) the fastest horse in the early stages, opening a small lead from Quiet Du Chene (Mario Fenech) and Quesito d’Or (Frencu Cassar). With 500m to go Pedro Vici was still going strong, however midway through the final straight couldn’t sustain the challenge of Quiet Du Chene which produced a strong burst in the last metres to notch up to its third win of the season and its second in a row. Quillian Joyeux (Andrew Farrugia) and Petunia Du Pont (Julian Farrugia) ended respectively in third and fourth place. Quo Williams (Charles Camilleri) also obtained a positive place finishing fifth in this final.

At the end of this final, the Hon Chris Agius, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport presented the trophy to Messrs Francis Bugeja and Mario Fenech, owner and driver respectively of the winning horse. The winner clocked an average time of 1.14.7” per kilometer and last June it had also won a similar championship for French trotters.
Quel Homme (Charles Camilleri) and Solide Du Jayle (Tony Cauchi) sprinted neck and neck in the final straight of the Prix d’Enghien final for class Gold trotters. It was the former which sealed its first win of the year with Quermes Rush (Anton Cassar), Ourasi Diams (Emmanuel Fenech) and Tresor De Quesny (Andrew Farrugia) finished respectively in third, fourth and fifth place.

The other finals in Sunday’s card were the Prix De Cabourg final for class Silver, the Prix De Cagnes Sur Mer final for class Bronze and the Prix De Caen final for Copper trotters. In the class Silver final, Querido Censerie (Clint Vassallo) surged ahead 400m to the end of the race and grabbed its first win of the season from Quozak Prior (Mario Seguna) and Roi Du Solat (Julian Farrugia). Quio De Nappes (Redent Magro) and Quartz De L’Isac (Charles Farrugia) also obtained a good place.

Tasco (Shaun Portelli) started to slow down around 400m from the end of the class Bronze final. This French eight year old trotter was overtaken by Polytain (Noel Baldacchino) which gained its second win of the year in front of Saphir Censerie (Kurt Saliba) and Roc Magister (Kirsten Axisa). Voila Dry (Ivan Bilocca) followed home in that order.

In the class Copper final, favorite Arcadie Lory took its tenth win in a row and in Malta when driven by Clint Vassallo. As expected, this French mare led all the way and triumphed by a length from Uranos (Tony Demanuele) and Ukulele Cehere (Julian Farrugia). Ocean Gede (Mario Fenech) finished fourth. This was Vassallo’s second win in Sunday’s finals.
