Bold Eagle wins Amerique in new record time

The 96th edition of the prestigious Grand Prix d’Amerique was held yesterday afternoon at the Vincennes Racetrack in Paris. As expected, this race, considered as the World Cup for trotters, was won by favourite French Bold Eagle under the guidance of Franck Nivard. The Amerique was held on a long distance of 2700m and in front of over 40,000 spectators.

Eighteen horses lined up for this race. French Timoko, under the guidance of Swedish Bjorn Goop, went in front after only few metres. This trotter opened a small lead from French Voltigeur De Myrt (Lorenzo Donati) and Swedish Call Me Keeper (Pierre Vercruysse).

However with around 500m to go, Timoko ran out of steam and started to slow down. Eventually it was overtaken by French mare Belina Josselyn (Jean Michel Bazire) and favourite Bold Eagle (Franck Nivard). Midway through the final straight it was the turn of Bold Eagle to go in front and this extraordinary horse past the finishing post first easily by three lengths and in a new average record time of 1.11.2” per kilometer. Norwegian Lionel (Matheu Abrivard) finished third from American Propulsion driven by Swedish Orjan Kihlstrom.

For Bold Eagle this was its second consecutive win in the Amerique while for Franck Nivard yesterday’s success was his fifth in his career in this prestigious race. Nivard had also won this race for the first time in 2009 with Meaulnes Du Corta and in 2012 and 2013 with Bold Eagle’s sire, Ready Cash. Bold Eagle is owned by Pierre Pilarski.
