Driven by Johan Axisa, French Pronostic De Neige won Sunday’s major event, the class Premier race on a short distance of 2140m. This race formed part of the 2nd Winter meeting made up of six races all for trotters all on a short distance.
Thirteen horses lined up for the class Premier race. Pronostic De Neige started to increase its speed with a lap to go and driven by Johan Axisa took the lead around 500m from the finishing line. This French trotter secured its first win of the year from B.W.L. Champion (Noel Baldacchino) and Quattro d’Airline (Cliferty Calleja). Swedish newcomer Vasterbo Paradise (Claudio Refalo) had a good debut in Malta when finishing in fourth place. The winner clocked an average time of 1.15.7” per kilometer.
Sunday’s card included also two races for class Gold trotters. In the first class Gold race, Qurieux Du Ponchet (Noel Baldacchino) upped its pace around 400m from the end and past the post first by half length from Prince Gaillard (Charles Camilleri) and Midnight Passion (Eric Bezzina). Markus Klipp (Darren Mizzi) finished fourth.
Young driver Redent Magro put Netter Williams in the final straight of the second class Gold race. This trotter triumphed easily by two lengths from Pepita Ans (Rodney Gatt), Argus Hanover (Noel Baldacchino) and Cowboy Party (Chris Cassar).

Up And Quick steals limelight in Paris
The 94th edition of the prestigious Gran Prix d’Amerique race was held Sunday afternoon at the Vincennes racetrack in Paris. As in the previous years, eighteen horses lined up for this race which is considered one of the major events in the international trotting calendar. This year it was French Up And Quick which managed to triumph in the Gran Prix d’Amerique organised on a long distance of 2700m under the guidance of Jean Michel Bazire.
It was Swedish Mosaique Face (Pierre Vercuysse) which stormed ahead after the official start of the race. During the first metres, this horse opened a half length lead from Italian Napoleon Bar (Enrico Bellei), Up And Quick (Jean Michel Bazire) and American Solvato (Orjan Kihlstrom). However with 600m to go Mosaique Face started to slow down and was overtaken by Up And Quick which triumphed easily by a length from Voltigeur De Myrt (Gabriele Gelormini) and Timoko (Bjorn Goop). Uhlan Du Val (Cedric Megissier) had also a very good performance, ending in fourth place.
Up And Quick clocked a good average time of 1.12.2” per kilometer. Meanwhile this was Bazire’s third win in this prestigious race. He had also won the 1999 edition with American mare Moni Maker and the 2004 edition with French Kesaco Phedo.
Memorable weekend for Maltese owners
This weekend of international races at Vincennes Racetrack will certainly remain a memorable one for a number of Maltese owners. Last Thursday, French Rionero (Eric Raffin), won the Prix La Valette on a short distance of 2100m. This horse was owned by Andre’ Farrugia and Steve Ciangura.
On Saturday it was Swedish Rooibos which under the guidance of Swedish driver Bjorn Goop won the international Prix Ready Cash race on a long distance of 2850m. This horse is owned by Josef Cassar. During the same meeting another horse owned by Darren Mizzi and David Attard and trained in France by Charles Degiorgio, Danish Mils You Love, finished second in the International Race for Amateur Drivers on a short distance of 2100m. This horse was driven by Dutch Jaap Terstal.
Sunday it was Ivan and Etienne Carabott’s Swedish mare Moving On which won the Prix Helen Johansson on a short distance of 2100m. This mare was driven by Franck Nivard.
